Anyone travelling due south from Coleraine will use the A29 which runs through Garvagh, Maghera, Magherafelt, Moneymore, Cookstown, Dungannon and then on towards Armagh. Only the almost perfectly straight section between Cookstown and Moneymore is dual-carriageway, and the exact reason for this is unclear.
Nevertheless, the road is good quality and fast, and provides longer-distance travellers with a safe opportunity to overtake slower moving vehicles on this busy route. There are currently no plans to dual any other portions of the A29, although there ius a plan to build an eastern bypass of Cookstown which would probably join this section, and a plan to realign the bad bend at Carland, near Dungannon. See future schemes.
